Safe Schools Tutorials

SafeSchools Tutorials for 2025-2026

Please find information included in this email for the SafeSchools Tutorials that all employees must complete for 2025-2026.

You can access the tutorials in two ways.

There is a link on the Southgate Community Schools website:

Each year, we require our staff to complete tutorials through SafeSchools. For the 2025-2026 school year, we are requiring the following to be completed.

Cybersecurity

  • Brower Security Basics
  • Email and Messaging Safely
  • Password Security Basics

Student Safety

  • AED (Automated External Defibrillators)
  • Child Abuse: Mandatory Reporting Michigan
  • Seclusion and Restraint Awareness
  • Bullying: Recognition & Response Refresher
  • Sexual Harassment: Student Issues & Response
  • FERPA – Confidentiality of Records

In addition, the following acknowledgements will be required:

  • Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Prevention
  • Concussion Awareness: Athletics
  • Sexual Harassment: Staff to Staff

Teachers only, must also complete Civil Rights in Food Service, for instances where students may eat a meal in your classroom.

This training is scheduled to take just over 3 hours. The window for this training is now open.

Please note: ALL NEW HIRE employees who start work after July 1, 2025, must complete the “FULL” version of the (13) tutorials listed below. After your first year, some tutorials will be refreshers. The mandatory tutorials for new hires are as follows:

  • Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Prevention
  • Browser Security Basics
  • Bullying: Recognition & Response
  • Concussion Awareness: Athletics
  • Email & Messaging Safely
  • FERPA – Confidentiality of Records
  • Password Security Basics
  • Seclusion and Restraint Awareness
  • Sexual Harassment: Staff to Staff
  • Title IX Compliance Overview
  • Youth Suicide: Awareness and Prevention

Please visit http://southgateschools.mi.safeschools.com/. Your username is your last name and first initial. Your password will be the first five letters of your last name. Please note, if your Southgate email account username contains a number 1, then you must include the number 1 in your username for SafeSchools.

Once a new hire employee is fully processed with HR and receives notice of their Southgate email account, I will set them up with SafeSchools tutorials.
