Southgate Community Schools is proud to implement the Center for Education Leadership's 5 Dimensions of Teaching and Learning™ framework for instructional growth and evaluation. 

Posting of Assurances

The majority of this process will utilize the Five Star web-based Pivot application (both the teacher and administrator will use this system extensively). 

Pivot Tool

Over the course of a school year, this process will include two Formative Feedback Cycles.

The first Feedback Cycle includes

  1. Self-assessment in Pivot (due prior to setting a growth plan below).
  2. The teacher determines areas of focus (3-5 Indicators from 2-3 Dimensions to include P5 Success Criteria) and establishes a growth plan (due September 30th)Pre-Inquiry Cycle Conferences are not required this year unless the teacher is on an IDP, was rated less than effective last year, or by request.
  3. Two observations of 15 minutes or more including Scripting Observations (coded), Noticings/Wonderings and teacher response (2 school day turnover for each), and Formative Feedback (5 school day turnover) on areas of focus.  There should be a minimum of 15 days between two observations for the same teacher.
  • 1st Observation can begin as soon as the growth plan is approved and should be completed no later than November 10th
  •  2nd Observation can begin as soon as15 days after the 1st Observation and should be completed no later than December 22nd
  1. Formative analysis of progress toward goals in a Mid-Year Post-Inquiry Cycle Conference (Can happen anytime after the 2nd Observation but no later than January 31st). 

The second Feedback Cycle includes

  1. The teacher and administrator collaboratively reviewing areas of focus for remaining school year and modifying (if necessary) growth plan in the Mid-Year Post-Inquiry Cycle Conference - same meeting as step #4 above (Due January 31st).
  2. Two observations of 15 minutes or more including Scripting Observations (coded), Noticings/Wonderings and teacher response (2 school day turnover for each), and Formative Feedback (5 school day turnover) on areas of focus.  There should be a minimum of 15 days between two observations for the same teacher.
    • 3rd Observation can begin as anytime after the Mid-Year Post-Inquiry Cycle Conference above but due no later than March 16th
    • 4th Observation can begin as soon as15 days after the 3rd Observation and should be completed no later than May 4th

3.      Summative analysis of progress toward goals and determination of effectiveness rating in Year-End Post-Inquiry Cycle Conference (can happen anytime after the 4th Observation but no later than May 25th).

  • All student assessments and data points should be in MIStar DnA to support growth goals
  • Evidence for rubric if not uploaded into Pivot

All teachers will have the above mentioned growth plans.


For probationary (non-tenure) teachers and teachers who would otherwise be on a "Plan of Assistance", these growth plans will be labeled as Individual Development Plans (IDP) and the goals will be determined by their building administrator in consultation with the teacher.  Feedback on the 1st and 3rd observations will be provided in a face-to-face conference.

 

For everyone else, the initial goals will be set by the teacher in consultation with their building administrator and should include the district goal of P5 Success Criteria.  Individual observation feedback will be delivered via Pivot, administrators will be available to discuss feedback face-to-face upon request.
