Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages.
In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, and can be saved privately or shared. People can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, or via a search engine.
Why is social bookmarking useful in education? Networking! Networking! Networking! Like other social networking sites, users can find other sites of the same topic of interest through people that have them bookmarked. For example: if I bookmark a photography site, I now have access to other people’s bookmarks that have bookmarked that same photography site. This leads to finding many more sites on the same topic of interest!
