Information for Participation

The following information is for participation in all 7th and 8th grade athletics at Davidson Middle School. If there are any questions in regards to athletics or extra-curricular activities, please contact the Davidson Middle School main office at 734-246-4628.

Athletic Physicals

All athletes must have a current physical on file to begin practice or tryouts with any team. All physicals must be dated on or after April 15th of the current year to be good for the following school year. The following link is for the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) physical form. Please have all pages completed and signed by a doctor.

Code of Conduct

All athletes must submit a signed copy of the Southgate Community School District Code of Conduct for Athletes. The complete Code of Conduct can be found by clicking on the following link:

The Southgate Community School District will be offering bus transportation to each away contest. If your child will not be riding the bus, a Travel Release Form must be completed prior to the event. A separate form must be filled out for each away contest. A short cut to the Travel Release form, which is part of the Code of Conduct can be found here:


Academic eligibility will remain a primary focus of all athletics at Davidson Middle School. Eligibility is checked on a weekly basis throughout each season. Academic success is a major contributing factor to success in athletics. A student becomes academically ineligible when they receive two 'E' grades during any one given week during the season. A student may participate, however, with one 'E' grade. It will be each student's responsibility to take care of their academics. Coaches will be notified of ineligible players.

A student that is deemed academically ineligible will still practice with the team and will dress and travel with the team for games, however the student will not be allowed to participate in the actual game(s) or scrimmage(s) during the time of ineligibility.

According to MHSAA rules, if a student does not pass 50% of their classes in the previous semester, then they are ineligible to participate in the following season's sporting activities. 

Students may also be deemed ineligible for disciplinary reasons. This type of ineligibility is determined based on the severity of the incident.

Equipment Agreement

Students participating in any of our athletics programs are responsible for the appropriate care of the equipment issued during the season.  Equipment issued is the property of the Southgate Community School District and must be returned upon the close of the season.

If  an athlete fails to return issued equipment or if the equipment is deemed to have abnormal wear, the Athletic Department will issue a fine that must be paid in order to continue accessing MiStar and receive report cards. Students with fines will also be ineligible to try out for any other team or participate in any extra-curricular activity until all fines have been paid. (This includes student dances, clubs, etc.)
