School/Home Communication:  Office communication will come mostly via Eblasts and Remind.  Therefore it is important to make sure that you have a viable email address and phone number on file with the office.  Remind is a messaging system that will go directly to your phone and/or email.  Eblasts are sent directly from MiStar.  Classroom teachers use various forms of communication as well.

PARKING LOT ETIQUETTE:

All cars will be routed out of the main parking lot through the connector lane to exit through the bus loop lane.  NO CARS will be exiting the main exit during Arrival or Dismissal.  This is a big change to our traffic flow.  Therefore it is of utmost importance that everyone is PATIENT AND AWARE of pedestrians.  NO ONE is PERMITTED to exit the entrance at any time.  All left turns are still a ticketable offense.  It is important that everyone following the traffic flow expectations and refrain from parking along the traffic flow route.  Thank you in advance for all your support and cooperation!!!

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP OF STUDENTS

It is expected that all parents/guardians will adhere to the drop-off and pick-up procedures.  We ask that all families be patient as everyone begins a new school year of dropping off and picking up of students.  The main goal is to keep students safe!  You can help us with this by following the appropriate traffic flow.  We ask that parents/guardians also help by instructing students to cross at the crosswalks ONLY!  Please make sure that ALL FIRE LANES are kept free from parked or standing cars!  Cars must be parked in a parking space when available.  The curbside in front of the main office may be used for pick up ONLY if there are no parking spaces available.

Safety Patrols: Safety patrols will be on duty the first day of school.

All doors will continue to be locked.  There is a buzzer system for anyone wishing to enter the building outside of the arrival and dismissal times.  This is for the safety of our children.  If a student should need to be signed out before 3:20 p.m., the office must be contacted prior to 2:50 p.m.  Please try to refrain from signing students out after 2:50 p.m.

Absences: Good Attendance is crucial for a student’s success in school.  Please ensure that your child is at school, on time, every day. Please call the school office, 734-246-4644, before 9:10 a.m., if your child is going to be absent.  You may call the night before and leave a voice message. The office opens at 7:45 a.m and closes at 3:45 p.m.  When a child is absent and we have not heard from a parent, a call will be made to verify the absence.  Please call or send a written note to the office stating the reason for the absence.  If your child is going to be tardy and wants a hot lunch, please order it when you call.  Lunch count is taken and ordered first thing each morning.

Tardy Policy: Students will be marked tardy after 8:15 am.  Parents MUST drop students off in the office when they arrive late. Please call the school office, 734-246-4644, before 9:10 a.m., if your child is going to be tardy. If your child is going to be tardy and wants a hot lunch, please order it when you call.  Lunch count is taken and ordered first thing each morning.

Personal Belongings:  Whenever possible, please mark children’s belongings with their name.  This applies to lunch boxes, school bags, boots, coats, hats, and any other items your child brings to school.  Labeling makes it easy to return misplaced personal belongings to children.  Please DO NOT allow your child to bring toys to school unless preapproved by the classroom teacher.

As we begin a new school year, I thought it might be helpful to share my thoughts on how we can continue to forge a positive home/school relationship, focused on the success of your child(ren).  In that spirit, I offer the following statements:

Count on me…

  • To exhibit a caring attitude and positive regard for all our children

  • To visibly demonstrate my belief that every child can learn

  • To listen carefully, and investigate any concerns fully

  • To ensure that discipline is a part of the learning experience in our school

  • To return your phone call or email within 24 hours

  • To be available for any appointment scheduled through my Administrative Assistant or myself

I’ll count on you…

  • To realize my focus as the building leader is to make decisions that are in the best interest of all the children

  • To support my daily priority of observing teaching and learning in classrooms, understanding that means I may not be immediately available in the office when you stop in

  • To understand I will be unable to disclose information about other children to you

  • To contact the adult closest to your concern first---a teacher or staff member before coming immediately to the administrator

In highly effective teams, members have expectations and roles that are clear for them, and readily understood---this helps the team function at the highest level.  As you and I work as a team to support your child’s experience this year, I invite your questions or comments about the above guiding principles.  I look forward to a successful year together!
